LVMont volunteer tutors help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence. We ask volunteers to commit to tutoring their student for 2 hours per week for 9 to 12 months.
This is a 18-hour in-person training that will prepare volunteer tutors to work with an adult English language learner. We will introduce tutors to techniques to teach conversation, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. More details about the training are available at the May Volunteer Information Sessions. LVMont provides a textbook and binder of materials.
The training sessions will take place June 6, 9, 13, 16, 23, and 27, 5:30-8:30 PM at the Leominster Public Library.
Prospective volunteers must complete an application beforehand. Please apply by May 31.
