Our current focus in Fitchburg is the Elm Street Area Neighborhood north of Main Street and the Fitchburg State College area. Our plan combines the efforts of many CDC departments -- Community Organizing, Small Business, Housing Development, and Home ownership - to generate a renewed sense of pride and ownership in the neighborhood, in the downtown business district, and in Fitchburg. In addition to extensive housing construction and rehabilitation in the neighborhood, the plan includes the recent conversion of 470 Main Street from a mostly-vacant bank building into a multi-use building including 31 units of quality, affordable housing, Homeownership and Small Business Assistance Centers, and our current offices. In Leominster, we have just completed construction on 40 units of LEED-certified, quality, affordable housing. The building provides community meeting space and CDC offices and is an anchor in the City of Leominster's redevelopment of the historic Comb & Carriage District.
What We Do
The Twin Cities Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a membership organization led by the diverse resident and business communities of Fitchburg and Leominster. We invest in and organize residents to help our communities build assets such as quality housing, good jobs, strong businesses and effective leaders. The Twin Cities Community Development Corporation (CDC) was founded in 1979 as the Cleghorn Neighborhood Development Corporation (CNDC). CNDC expanded its territory in 1985 to encompass all of Fitchburg and again in 1995 to include its "twin city" of Leominster. Since inception, the CDC has focused on economic development strategies, adding affordable housing and in recent years, community organizing, to more effectively harness the energy and voice of the community. We envision healthy neighborhoods where residents choose to live, work, and invest, thereby forming a powerful unified community.
