United Way of North Central Massachusetts

Who We Are

We are a community partner that raises awareness of community needs and create a platform for changes for the Common Good. We work with our local partners to identify needs and catalyze actions that create the change. We recognize volunteers as community Changemakers* through the power of their volunteer service. We build the capacity of volunteer programs by supporting volunteer managers, promoting industry best practices and keeping abreast of volunteer trends. The United Way Volunteer Center is a conduit for individuals to utilize their talents, skills and passions by volunteering to fill the needs of non-profit agencies. The commitment and dedication of the volunteers improves the community and helps create sustainable change.

Annual Events include: Martin Luther King Day in January; Heroes Against Hunger meal packaging events to support local food pantry needs; promotion of volunteer events and recognition during National Volunteer Week in April and the United Way Day of Caring in September, a day of service in partnership with community businesses and their employees.

*Changemaker: an individual that observes a need for social change and acts to resolve it. Changemakers come from all walks of life and make an impact through commitment and dedication, locally and globally.

What We Do

The Volunteer Center mission is to educate, inform and inspire greater community involvement through new and innovative strategies. The Volunteer Center began as Community Builders, an initiative and partnership between the United Way of North Central Massachusetts, Mount Wachusett Community College and Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. Today the Volunteer Center is an integral partner in the community, promoting the United Way mission of creating and supporting sustainable improvements in the N. Central region. The Center is a liaison between non-profit agencies and the businesses and individuals that impact the community through volunteering and sponsorships of United Way initiatives. THe Volunteer Center is affiliated with Hands on Network/Points of Light Institute, Massachusetts Service Alliance and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
